Skiing in St. Anton, Austria

Skiing in St. Anton, Austria

Skiing in St. Anton, Austria: I have recently discovered the Austrian Alps, and in this winter I have visited St. Anton area already few times. The village of St. Anton is located in 1300m and the highest peaks go up to 2800m. With over 270 km of slopes and over 180 km of marked routes for powder runs the place offers a great variety for piste and off-piste skiers. It is not only the skiing which is great, but also the genuine Tyrolean hospitality and the friendliness of the people that makes you feel welcome – and return.

The ski peaks in St. Anton, AustriaThe Arlberg ski region offers a great variety of slope areas to visit even for longer stay. The St. Anton side has nice slopes and is a good place to start your holiday. There are plenty of nice and long rides to discover, though sometimes it gets a bit busy during the weekends. And everybody knows it: St. Anton is famous for the best after-ski parties! The place is called Krazy Kanguruh, and even the name tells the fun starts here…

Ski Restaurant Goldener Berger, Oberlech, Lech, AustriaFor a stylish and quieter stay, I would recommend the Zurs-Lech side. The area’s most famous ski route, the white ring, starts from Zurs and goes over the mountains to Zug, to Lech and back to Zurs again. It is a great way to experience the slopes on the Zurs-Lech side. It takes about 2-3 hours to ski it through, but can have a nice lunch in between. With great terrace restaurants Oberlech village is a good choice for lunch. Especially the terrace restaurant of hotel Goldener Berger is worth to visit. Here you can enjoy the most delicious food under the Alpine sun. A reservation is recommended as the pace gets busy over the lunch time. The white ring, Zurs-Lech, Austria

I really like the Arlberg area and I am sure I will be there even more often in the future. I have to admit, this year the snow is not its best, but the great weather makes it worth to go skiing as often as possible. And maybe there is still a chance that we will get more snow…

Skiing in the Swiss Alps is absolutely a fantastic experience. Imagine the blue sky, dazzling white snow, winter sun and all day outside in the alpine air. What could be more refreshing? There are plenty of ski resorts offering a great variety of slopes from beginners to more advanced skiers. Please see my recent blog posts of Lech in Austria and skiing in Switzerland for some great tips for Alpine holidays.

Burj Al Arab, DubaiSun, sun and sun in Dubai
Dubai is a perfect destination in February. The weather is pleasurably warm and the sun is almost guaranteed. Dubai is full of fabulous hotels, great restaurants, fantastic shopping malls, mystic souks, beautiful golf courses and much more. Two of my favourite hotels in Dubai are Al Maha desert resort and One and Only Royal Mirage –to combine them will make a perfect stay.

Penny Black in MilanShopping in Milan
Milan is my favourite city for shopping in Italy. You can find there about everything you need: stylish clothes, beautiful shoes and absolutely gorgeous leather bags. Milan has also great hotels, like Four Seasons and Bulgari, and so many great restaurants. Click here to read my latest post about shopping in Milan.

Gridlon – an idyllic wellness hotel in Pettneu, near St. Anton

Hotel Gridlon Pettneu St. Anton AustriaPettneu – St. Anton, Austria: Looking for a nice hotel in St. Anton area? We stayed in this lovely alpine style hotel called Gridlon, which is located in a village of Pettneu, next to St. Anton. The hotel is quiet and very charming. They have nice dining facilities, a small bar, a spa and sauna area, good ski room facilities and a free shuttle bus service to the ski lifts in the morning and return in the afternoon. This place is a perfect choice for an idyllic stay near St. Anton.

We had a spacious room with two bedrooms, balcony and a view towards the mountain peaks. As I was travelling with my two cats, I highly appreciated the friendliness of the hotel personnel and they great flexibility with accommodating my little pet princesses. This place has definitively a “can do” mentality!

The hotel offers half-board with enormous breakfast that keeps you going until late lunch. Their afternoon tea with delicious home-made apple pie, which you can enjoy next to the fire place is also definitively worth to mention. It warms you after full day of fresh air and makes a perfect break before heading for the dinner, which is also included.

Ski weekend in Lech, Austria – a great experience!

Skiing in Lech Austria

Lech am Arlberg, Austria: Located in one of the snowiest regions in the middle of the Austrian Alps Lech-Zurs is a great destination for a ski holiday. With 280km of slopes and in addition of 180km of powder snow runs, the skiing is outstanding.  The area is famous for its stylish hotels, high-class service and suburb food, so no wonder it attracts many celebrities to visit this pearl of the Austrian ski resorts.

Skiing in Lech, AustriaOberlech, the car-free ski village
The most peaceful area to enjoy your alpine holiday is to stay in a quiet little natural paradise of Oberlech (1660m). Connected with cable car to the main village of Lech, Oberlech is easy to reach, but in a good way a bit distant.  And what is the best, in the morning you can start your skiing straight away in front of your hotel!

Hotel Goldener BergHotel Goldener Berg, Oberlech
We stayed in a traditional alpine style hotel Goldener Berg in Oberlech. The hotel is passionate about its hospitality, and you will really feel welcome when sipping a glass or champagne while checking in. The dinner was excellent, but what I liked even more was their breakfast buffet. Freshly baked bread, a selection of Austrian cheeses, natural yogurt, fresh fruits and freshly squeezed juices, there is everything you need to a good start for a skiing day. You can even make your own booster with carrots and other vegetables. After the full day of skiing, you can enjoy their exclusive alpine spa facilities.  For more information, check their website:

the long rideThe White Ring, the longest ski-run in the world
The area offers a great variety of easy and more challenging slopes. Lech is a great destination also for beginners. With many easy, but scenic routes you can enjoy your first rides and then try the more challenging slopes. The White Ring is probably the most famous run in the Lech-Zurs resort, and a good way to start your skiing holiday to get a feeling about the area. Try also my favourite run the long, red slope which starts from Muggengrat (2450m), on top of the Zurs resorts and returns back to Zurs village. It is great fun!

Eat well in Seekopf-Restaurant…
The Zurs-Lech area is full of nice restaurants, though many of them are located in the villages of Lech and Zurs. If you prefer a beautiful view to the Austrian Alps and good simple food, go to the Seekopf-Restaurant in the Zurs side of the mountains. This place offers delicious, but simple food – and even vegetarian courses are available.
